Historical gold maps of the Victorian Goldfields

Posted 14/03/2019 in Gold
Section of 1908 geological survey map, County of Gladstone, State Library Victoria.

The State Library Victoria and National Library of Australia contain a wealth of digitised resources, many of which provide valuable information for the modern day gold prospector. Historical maps provide insights into the geological features and gold mining operations of the past, helping prospectors to determine ideal locations to search for gold

This huge list of maps links to historical maps for various towns and regions throughout the Victorian Goldfields. These maps have been selected because they display useful information regarding the location of reefs, leads, diggings, mining operations, and geological features. This list is not complete, and will continue to be added to over time - you can like/follow the Goldfields Guide Facebook page for updates.

Always check the land access rules of the area you are planning on prospecting in.

Before exploring the free gold maps on this page, keep in mind that John Tully, local historian and author, has created a series of modern day prospecting maps which he has compiled from extensive research of early survey maps, reports and other Mines Department records, contemporary newspaper articles, interviews with local identities and personal observation. His maps are extremely useful and are available for purchase here.

I have been trying to trace the twin sibling of my Great Grandmother Elizabeth Reynolds born on the Indigo Goldfields in 1859. Their births were recorded only as male & female. Parents were Mary Ann Reynolds nee Keating & her husband James . Date of birth of the twins was 29 August .1859. There were three other children born to these parents at Rutherglen. John Robert dob 1861, Susan dob 1863, James Henry dob 1863. Is there anyway I can obtain any information of these children.? I would like to know what happened to the male twin as there has been no information I have obtained other than his Birth Registration

Stumbled on your question reviewing gold miners. There is no apparent record of twins to maiden name Keating/married Surname Reynolds spouse James in 1859 on the Victorian Index. Registration numbers for twins can be sequential and there is nothing like that in 1858-1861 births under these parents names
