The enormous Lake Wendouree Adventure Playground is an absolute must-see for kids!
The playground is built completely from wood and has so much fun equipment, including slides, multiple kinds of swings (a wheelchair access swing as well), monkey bars, forts, climbing structures, steering wheels, tunnels, and much more.
The playground is located along the banks of the picturesque Lake Wendouree and is directly across the road from the beautiful Ballarat Botanical Gardens. There are lovely walking tracks around the lake as well as throughout the Botanical Gardens. The lake is also popular for fishing.
Alongside the playground there are multiple undercover barbecue areas, many picnic tables and rubbish bins. Toilets are a short walk away across the road and over to the left.
Ducks, swans, and several other species of water birds call Lake Wendouree home, making this a great place for birdwatching or to take children to feed the ducks. Please note that feeding ducks bread is detrimental to their health, try some of these more appropriate alternatives:
- Corn (canned, frozen or fresh)
- Duck pellets (sold online and at pet stores)
- Lettuce, other greens (torn into small pieces)
- Frozen peas (defrosted)
- Oats (rolled or instant)
- Seeds (including birdseed or other varieties)
The Lake Wendouree Adventure Playground is a very large play area and is densely filled with play equipment. Please be aware that there is no fence around the play area, and due to the density and popularity of the playground for children of all ages, toddlers and small children could easily get lost. To ensure the safety of small children, maintain supervision at all times.
