Enjoy a picnic or barbecue lunch while looking down over the water at the Waanyarra Bushland Reserve, where the beautiful Loddon River joins the scenic Laanecoorie Reservoir. 

This is a peaceful spot for swimming, fishing, bushwalking and birdwatching.

Two picnic tables sit above the waters edge offering excellent views over the river and a wood fire barbecue / fire pit sits alongside one of the tables. 

Camping not permitted at the Waanyarra Bushland Reserve

A sign located in the bushland reserve states that camping is prohibited here. 

How to get to the Waanyarra Bushland Reserve

The Waanyarra Bushland Reserve is located in Laanecoorie. It is 15 minutes from Dunolly, 22 minutes from Maryborough, and 40 minutes from Bendigo. 

A dirt road leads into the reserve across from the intersection of Eddington-Laanecoorie Road and Tarnagulla-Eddington Road.


  • Bushwalking is an excellent way to get outdoors and exploring nature.
  • There are hundreds of fantastic barbecue areas throughout the Victorian Goldfields. Some are in parks/playgrounds, others are scattered throughout the bush. Many barbecue areas are located alongside amazing attractions and walks, so go out for a barbecue and get exploring!
  • There are heaps of fantastic swimming spots throughout the Victorian Goldfields, including the Loddon River, Cairn Curran Reservoir, Laanecoorie, Turpins Falls, and many more!
