  • Alongside the notorious Black Forest
This charming little roadside picnic area offers a picnic table which overlooks a scenic dam.

This grassy clearing lies alongside Black Forest Drive and sits right beside the Black Forest - notorious during the 19th century gold rush for its perilous roads and lurking bushrangers.

Diggers travelling from Melbourne to the Mount Alexander and Bendigo goldfields needed to pass through the dreaded Black Forest along the way.

Picnics at Lagoon Park

The picnic area at Lagoon Park consists of a single wooden picnic table set on a concrete slab.

The picnic table overlooks the scenic little dam and is a peaceful spot to bring a packed picnic lunch.

Great website, though what about Steiglitz? Not even a mention of an entire town considered the most valuable exampke if early Victorian goldfield life by various government departments.

Hi Lindy, Goldfields Guide is still a work in progress, I am based in the Central Goldfields and working out from there. Steiglitz is definitely on the list of places which will be added to the website along with other significant areas such as Whroo, Blackwood, etc. Cheers! :)
