Lexton Major Mitchell Monument

Major Thomas Mitchell travelled through this area from Mount Cole on the 25th September 1836, describing it as "a valley of the finest description".

A stone monument stands beneath the shade of a tree on the corner of Lexton-Talbot Road and School Lane, commemorating his passage through the area. 

The monument bears a plaque displaying the following text:

Major Mitchell passed through this district on 25th September 1836
