Anzac Hill looks out over the gorgeous historical town of Maldon and features an Avenue of Honour, war memorial, restored Turkish gun and a scenic walking track. Anzac Hill can be accessed by car from Anzac Hill Road or by walking track from Spring Street. 


History of Anzac Hill

According to the Victorian Heritage Database:

The Maldon Anzac Hill Memorial was established as part of the Maldon Sub-Branch Returned Services League, 1988 Bicentennial Year Project. The Memorial comprises of a plaque and German-made Turkish Gun, which was used against Australian Forces at Gallipoli in 1915. The gun was restored with money raised by local residents and was unveiled on 24th April 1988.

Turkish Gun at Anzac Hill


A plaque alongside the restored German-made Turkish gun displays the following text:

Maldon Sub-Branch Returned Services League Bicentennial Year Project - 1988

Restoration of German-made Turkish Gun used against Australian Forces at Gallipoli in 1915.

Assisted by generous contributions from the citizens of Maldon.

According to Monument AustraliaThe associated plaque states that the gun was captured on Gallipoli, but it is unlikely that this is correct.

Anzac Hill Loop Walk


There is a fantastic 2km loop walk which climbs Anzac Hill from Spring Street, heads down Anzac Hill Road and returns to the starting point along Parkins Reef Road and High Street. There are many points of interest along the walk:
