Stop by the Taradale CFA and take a look at this interesting old hose reel, purchased by the Taradale Volunteer Fire Brigade when it first formed in 1882. This hose reel spent several decades on display in the Jeparit Museum before being returned to Taradale in the 1990s. It is now housed in a small display building alongside Taradale's modern CFA station.
The building displays a few other historical items including a uniform and multiple hoses. An enlarged historical photograph covers the back wall.
The information sign accompanying the display provides the following text:
TARADALE FIRE BRIGADE
This hose reel was purchased by the TARADALE VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE when it first formed in 1882. The reel is based on those used by the American 'Hose and Ladder' type Fire Departments of the era. The reel was on display in the Jeparit Museum from the late 1950's until it was returned to Taradale in 1994. Restoration of the reel was carried out by members of the Taradale Fire Brigade in early 2007 for it to be part of the brigade's 125th Anniversary celebrations. Restoration was carried out with financial support from the RACV foundation.
