Bendigo's iconic Poppet Head Lookout stands atop Camp Hill and overlooks the gorgeous Rosalind Park, Bendigo city, and surrounding bushland. Installed at this site in 1931, the poppet head was originally used at the Garden Gully United mine. During the gold rush, Camp Hill was visible from all of Bendigo so it was used as a spot to hoist flags indicating that mail had arrived in town.
The Bendigo Heritage Mosaic depicts Bendigo's mining history and sits at the foot of the lookout, designed to be viewed from above.
The lookout tower can be reached via a car park on Gaol Road or on foot through the beautiful Rosalind Park.
The interesting Old Police Barracks are located over on the other side of the Camp Hill Primary School, a short stroll down Gaol Road from the Poppet Head Lookout.
