A picnic area featuring multiple undercover barbecues and picnic tables sits along the shore of the reservoir, providing an amazing destination for family fishing trips. Walking and birdwatching are also popular here.

On calm days when the water is still the pine trees which surround the lake reflect in the water like a mirror image, much like at the beautiful St George's Lake in Creswick, creating a great opportunity for photographers.

The Ballan Mineral Spring is also located along Shaws Road, just before you reach the reservoir.
