Five beautiful swimming spots in the Victorian Goldfields

Posted 09/10/2022 in Places

There's no shortage of amazing places to swim throughout the Victorian Goldfields, but there are a few particularly scenic spots that definitely stand out above the rest!

If you like swimming beneath waterfalls, relaxing in swirling rock pools, or looking out across the water to stunning forest views, then this list is for you.

Loddon Falls, Glenlyon

The gorgeous Loddon Falls drops dramatically over a wall of huge hexagonal basalt columns into a swimming hole below, before continuing on through the spectacular rocky gorge.

The waterhole beneath Loddon Falls is a beautiful spot for swimming, surrounded by dramatic scenery and complemented by the sound of rushing water.

St Georges Lake, Creswick

St Georges Lake in Creswick is a picturesque local favourite for swimming, well known for its glassy water which reflects dramatic mirror images of the forest on the opposite shore.

This is a beautiful spot for swimming, stand up paddle boarding, and photography.

Colbrook Reservoir, Colbrook

One of the most beautiful reservoirs in the Victorian Goldfields, Colbrook Reservoir is an amazing place for bushwalking, swimming, fishing, bush camping, and photography.

Featuring a stunning dam wall complete with seasonal waterfall, this place is a must-see when exploring the beauty of the Wombat State Forest!

The Cascades, Metcalfe

At this extraordinary spot along the Coliban River, a series of cascades sweep over layers of bedrock as the water whirls down through rockpools, crevices and little caverns.

Relax in a rockpool, take a dip in one of the larger swimming holes, or make your way across the stunning bedrock and boulders to wander along and appreciate the scenic beauty of the river.

The Blowhole, Hepburn

This historic diversion tunnel along the picturesque Sailors Creek has created a pretty man-made waterfall with a little swimming hole beneath it.

When the creek is flowing from winter to early summer, water rushes through the tunnel and falls into a small pool below before continuing down the scenic creek.

This is a great place to bring inflatable pool toys and relax, floating on the water.

Note - The swimming hole here is currently closed due to flood damage - keep updated here
