Carisbrook is a quiet little town in the heart of the Central Goldfields Shire, set around the scenic Deep Creek.

Check out the Carisbrook Log Gaol
Known as "The Logs", this fascinating early 1850s log gaol served as the major gaol in the extensive Carisbrook Police District until the late 1850s, and it remained Carisbrook's gaol for low offenders until about 1900.
Several notorious bushrangers were imprisoned in The Logs, and at least three people have died within its walls.
Originally located in the police paddock on Camp Street, this log gaol was relocated in the 1870s. It was again relocated in the early 20th century to its present site on Bucknall Street.
Today visitors can take an up close look at the gaol, and check out the informative displays housed inside. The gaol is open from 10am - 5pm most days.

Bring the kids for a picnic and play at the Market Reserve Recreation Area
Carisbrook's Market Reserve Recreation Area is a fantastic public space in Carisbrook which features a fenced playground, undercover picnic area, BMX track, community rose garden, information signs and toilets.
The main entrance to the park is lined with beautiful historical information signs featuring intriguing pictures from the past, and a community rose garden is another lovely feature of this reserve.

Take a nature walk along the Creek from Bucknall Reserve
Bucknall Reserve is a pretty little picnic area beside Tullaroop Creek, known locally as Deep Creek.
The grassy lawn is shaded by multiple huge trees, which seasonally provide a lovely carpet of autumn leaves - great for kids to play in! A small undercover barbecue sits by the parking area, along with rubbish bins and a toilet block.
Visitors can take a stroll down the scenic nature trail which travels alongside the creek, pausing to check out the interesting information signs along the way.

Go for a swim at Bland Reserve
Spend an afternoon swimming, walking and picnicking at Carisbrook's Bland Reserve, a charming park along the bank of Tullaroop Creek.
A playground and picnic tables are set along a grassy lawn, and several scenic walking tracks set out from here.
A slight slope takes you down to the waters edge to the left of the footbridge, where you will find a great swimming spot. Visit at dusk for a chance of spotting a platypus from the bridge.

Visit the site of the Carisbrook Bald Hill Historic Cemetery
The old Carisbrook / Bald Hill Cemetery was established in the early 1850's and is just a few minutes drive from Carisbrook Victoria.
The Bald Hill Cemetery was replaced in 1858 by the nearby Carisbrook Cemetery, which is still in use today. There was some overlap of the usage of the two cemeteries.
The area is all farmland now and no trace of the old cemetery remains except for a monument which was erected in 1997. The monument includes a list of the people who are buried there and includes their age, date of death, and full names.

Head out to the Carisbrook Reservoir
The seasonal Carisbrook Reservoir lies within the Craigie State Forest between Carisbrook and Maryborough, and is a great place for free camping, gold prospecting, bushwalking and birdwatching.
The reservoir typically dries up through summer, but fills back up again through late autumn, winter and spring.
A narrow bush road travels along the top of the dam wall, making a great walking track and offering scenic views over the water.
The reservoir is surrounded by old gold diggings and there are several historic mine sites located close by.
