The Franklinford Yandoit Cemetery sits on a slope which overlooks the surrounding countryside. The cemetery was established in 1842, and a section towards the back contains several pioneer graves. Notable graves include those of Edward Stone Parker (Assistant Protector of Aborigines) and William Weston Howe (Surveyor).



There is seating at the cemetery as well as a toilet block. An information sign stands close to the front gate.

From the Franklinford Yandoit Cemetery, you can see the beautiful nearby Mount Franklin - an extinct volcano which has been attractively decorated with exotic trees, and offers camping and picnic facilities.

I had not heard of the location Franklinford until today when I found a distant relative buried in the cemetery there. I know many of the surrounding towns, I have driven through that area numerous times. My grandfather was born at Newstead. Like they say "you learn something new every day".
